Default 2001 A6 2.7 - Burning Oil

This topic may have been discussed previously, but here goes.

My car only has around 50K and I noticed after driving for a week or so after having my oil changed my oil light came on stating that I had min amount of oil in the car. I called the German auto place that I take my car to, and asked if they actually didthe oil change? They said that it is a problem with this make and model to burn oil. They also told me if the car was under warranty that Audi would replace the engine if it met certainrequirements and an inspection by a certified mechanic. Basically I would need to get an oil change and take it back to the mechanic after 600 miles. If I burn through 1-2 quarts of oil I am covered under my warranty to get a new engine. If I get the oil changed and take it back at 600 miles, and the oil loss is less than 1-2 quarts...I am screwed and have to add oil on a regular basis.

I guess the mechanic did some research and found that Audi was aware of this problem early on in production ofthese cars, so they made specific requirements for this oil loss issue to protect them from angry Audi buyers.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted get this out there and see if anyone has heard of this oil burning issue.

Thanks

Sounds like horse **** to me. 2.7T engines leak a lot of oil but they don't burn it off on a regular basis.
Can you smell oil burning while driving? My guess is your leaking a large amount of oil from the valve covers and cam seals which leak directly on the exhaust manifolds.
And what oil are you running? Has the mechanic checked out the PCV system to see if it was clogged?

I had a leaking problem, and had all of the cam seal replaced. I don’t smell oil and no evidence of leaking, just the oil light. I already yelled at the mechanic and don’t really trust them, so I probably need to get a second opinion.

The mechanic gave me documentation on the oil burning issue, but just not sure if my car falls into this category or just misdiagnosed by the mechanic.

Was there still oil on the dip stick when the oil light was going off? In order for the oil light to come on in the 2.7T you have to be more than 2 quarts low and if you still had oil on the dipstick your only about 1 quart low which brings me to the conclusion you have a faulty sensor.

I should add that if your using standard oil and not synthetic your PCV system is probably a little bit plugged up and is causing some oil burn off. Get those checked out.
