Default 2001 A6 2.7t amplifier problem - rear speakers are dead!

Hi everyone-

New to the forums here, but this site looks like it has an active community. Today on the way to work my 2001 A6's rear speakers made a series of loud distortion sounds, then died. They will still occasionally make distortion sounds, but when I change the fader to rear only no radio/CD sound comes out.

Looking around the forums a little bit, I think the problem may be in my amplifier, since all of the back speakers went out at once. Has anyone run into a similar problem? If so, what did you do to fix it? I am fairly savvy regarding car repairs, so I would like to fix this on my own if at all possible.

Thanks in advance!

best thing to do is take a speaker from a rear door and hook it up to one of the connectors in the front door. If the speaker works you have a bad amp.

Checked the speakers, and they are working fine. Has anyone run into a similar amplifier malfunction? I'm wondering if it may have been one of the grounds for the amp, or if the whole amp is dead.
