2001 A6 Maintenance

I'm looking at purchasing a 2001 A6 2.8T. Its got 58k miles and it was Audi certified in 2004 and the Audi warranty is valid for one more year i.e., 7/2007. They are asking $17k. Is this a good price for this car. The car is in excellent condition.

My main concerns were the maintenance required since it is already 68k miles. What major maintenance should I be looking into in the near future and what would it cost me ? Also, any comments on this model car would be very helpful in deciding to buy the car or not.

Thanks in advance to your replies.

Is it 2.8 or 2.7T? Also does is have 58k or 68k miles? That sounds quite a bit for a 2001 with that many miles. There are newer ones going for that price or below. As far as maintenance goes, you would want to do the timing belt and water pump soon, and possibly the tie-rods and shocks depending on how it was driven.

I bought an '01 A6 2.8Q with 58K miles on it for $15,500, and it was in excellent condition inside and out, so if it is a 2.8 with 58K miles, that seems a little high. I just got the 60K service done, and they found that the fron CV boots and right fron tie rod end needed to be replaced. Cost from a local indy shop was about 8 bills, but extended warranty took care of that minus $100 deductible. I would highly suggest checking into an extended warranty on the thing from my experience. I got mine through AcuraCare for about $1300 which goes for 3 yrs., 36K miles.

Its a 2.7T. Checked the Kelly Blue Book and the private person value for this car is 18k. Searched quite a bit on cars.com and autotrader.com and could not find anything less than 17k for a car with this mileage.
Also, the car has extended warranty from audi for one more year.

Couldn't find the website for the AcuraCare warranty. The one I found was only for Accuras.

Thanks for your replies.
Its a 2001 A6 2.7T with 58k miles. It was Audi certifed in in 05-2005, so the Audi warranty is valid till 05-2007. Checked KBB for private person pricing for both the 2.8Q and the 2.7T:

2001 A6 2.7T
Excellent value is: 19k
Good value is: 18k

2001 A6 2.8Q:
Excellent value is: 16k
Good value is: 15k

Pictures of the car is in: http://sgautogroup.com/

Would appreciate any second opinion on the price and what maintenance issues I should be expecting soon and the cost.

Thanks in advance.

That's a typical price for an 01 2.7t. It does still have a warrant for a little longer which is always good. In 15 to 20 thousand miles your going have to be thinking about a new timing belt and things like that. Almost a turbo rebuild might also be needed down the road. It's looks like a nice car and it a fair deal, you can find one for less but it will take a will to search for it...i got my 1999 a6 2.8Q for $10,000 with only 78,000 miles on it with a new timing belt, serpitine belt, tires, brakes. but it took me awhile to find i just found it pretty much by luck because i was originally looking for a b5 a4 but found such a good deal on a better car.
