Default 2001 A6 TDI 180 HP, turbo question

Hi there.

Just a bit of an introduction and a question.

4 years ago we bought a 2001 A6 avant with the 6speed manual 2,5 litre 180 HP TDI engine.
We drive a lot of miles and so far it has always taken us to where we wanted.
Knocking on wood....
We bought it with a 140000 miles and put around another 100000 miles on it now.
Now I dont have any experience with this engine othen then in this car.
but I feel it could do more under the turbo range.

I tried 2 automatics to compare but there is just no comparing. The manual is so much faster and responsive and picky with the short gears.
Ones with the 6 speed-manual are quite rare here.

Before this we drove one of the first 94 passat 1,9 tdi's to its end with 420000 miles. And that also produced some power under the typical 1900 rpm turbo start. It just gained more after 1900..

This A6 Tdi does close to nothing without the turbo, even when pushing the pedal to the floor it feels weak.
But at that 2200 rpm when the turbo kicks in, its like a bullit.
Now I don't know if this is normal or not, so I thought I'd just ask the proffesionals.

Maybe everyone allready knows this effect and I just have to change this and that. Or that this is actually completely normal.
Whatever it is, let them speak! :P

thanks a lot!!

This won't help in your case, but you probably noticed that this in mainly a US site. Only recently have the US gotten a diesel Audi in the form of the Q7. Hence the lack of responses.

In my own diesel that I had back in the UK, the behaviour your describe is very similar. It wasn't until I heard that little whirling from the turbos did power come. Even now, the only options in the UK with manual are entry level A6s or diesel A6s. I really enjoy my S6 manual, but that's another story.

Hmmz. I didn't notice that this was an all American forum..
And I thought even in America they whould use some of these nice diesel engined cars by now. This v6 diesel with almost 200 HP has all the torque you will ever need and still does 160 in luxury..
Thanks for the info anyways!
I'z on ma way to find a european audi board. :P
