2001 audi a6 bad engine
hello i am new to this forum and pretty new to owning an audi. i recently got a 2001 audi a6 quattro with the 4.2 v8 a few months ago. a couple days after owning the car the timing chain tensioner failed on the drivers side head. took the car to the shop and had both the tensioners replaced but little did i know when the one failed it caused a valve to drop and go through the piston so now my engine is junk so im told by the shop. i am not familiar with audi or imports, ive always been a chevy guy but decided to switch it up with this car and has proved to be a bad idea. my question is can i do an engine swap with something besides the 4.2 v8, the shop has quoted me 6000 to do a swap with a another 4.2 they have found but with already having 2500 into replacing the timing chain tensioners i can not justify spending that much more on this car. any advice or input would be greatly appreciated, just trying to figure out what my best option is with the car, either junk it and cut my losses or continue to fix it if the expense is right.
