2002 A6 3.0 mileage with Air conditioning "on"
Hey guys/gals, I have been searching the forums and can't seem to locate any posts addressing my issue/question so I am posting.
What seems to be occurring is this.... I have a slight rumble that can be felt when I turn on the air conditioning or defrost. I unplugged the fans and the rumble is still there, so I am assuming a have a compressor that may be at fault. The AC works fine, I just have this noise and decreased mileage.
What I noticed, is while traveling 50mph on a flat road with AC "off", my ECU/cluster indicates 24.7..ish MPG. As soon as I turn the AC "ON", the indicated fuel mileage drops to 19mpg and I hear the rumble.
Is this 5mpg decrease normal or...is it excessive? Taking the decrease of economy along with the rumble into consideration, should I condemn the compressor? Thank you
