2003+ A8 12 Spoke rims and tires fiton 2000 A6 4.2L?
Hi,
New to the forums, excellent content on here! I own a 2000 A6 4.2L and have an opportunity to buy (5) 12 spoke A8 rims and tires (255/40/19). I know the bolt pattern fits and realize the tire size is over 2" bigger diameter from my stock tires (i am not interested in lowering it, just want to fill the wheel wells). Has anyone tried this and if so what was needed to make this successful? Im thinking spacers at minimum, 20mm's enough?
Thanks in advance!

Ok, I think I'm getting closer. I picked them up and tried them on. I was correct on the bolt pattern, fits 100%. Found that the tire hit the upper control arm, just barely. I measured (roughly) that a 20mm spacer should do the trick (will also move the tire right out flush with the fender lip...nice! Now in the process of sourcing these and extra long bolts on ebay, unless someone knows a real good place to order these elsewhere. They sould look awesome when I get this done. Will post a pic once I'm finished.

I'm back! Got the spacers on Friday and had a good day to do some playing today. I managed to get the A8 rims and tires on the vehicle with the 20MM spacers with no hitting at all. I took the vehicle outside and cranked the wheels to each side and just a bit of rubbing on the innner fender well at the back only, not the front portion at all, and only when you crank it all the way (not too bad though, can easily live with this). Out onto the road I went, hit some pretty good bumps (railroad crossing as the best example) and no tire rub at all...very good news!!!. I've posted some pics of the A8 rims on the A6 as well as my winter wheels (17" 225/45/17 with the spacers too, just in case anyone was interested).
In summary, I am happy with the outcome. If I would do it again I would go with 25MM spacers as you can see in my pics there is some room to go still to get the wheel right out to the fender edge. I am thrilled with the look and with the price I paid for 5 rims (not 4) and tires (Pirelli P6's with about 65% tread left) for $800, I think it was an inexpensive way to make the car look very nice! For another $600 I can get the rims completely redone to new, including removing and reinstalling the tires. Right now there is some good curb rash on them so I think I'm gonna do it before spring arrives. Anyone know of a place cheaper than $150/rim in the Toronto area let me know!
Cheers!
