2004 A6 front brakes

I have a 2004 A6 S-Type. I just replaced the front brake pads (senson light on) My pedal was fine before I replaced the pads now after I replaced the pads the pedal feels spongy and fads to the floor. The cars stops ok but the pedal fads. Should I have bleed the brakes after replacing the pads ?Thanks

RE: 2004 A6 front brakes

You may have to bleed the brake lines due to opening up the bleeder valve. Bleed the air out and you should be good.

Hope this does not sound stupid but what does opening up the bleeder valve mean. Also are there any special procedures to bleeding the brakes on an A6.

Thansk for the reply

Do NOT open up your bleeders, thats an ignorant statement. You didn't open up your lines when replacing the brake pads, thats retarted to say they magically got air in them.
Every audi has a brake pad break in period where the pedal feels spongy until the pad gets seated against the rotor. You should feel how spongy it is when doing both the front and the back! It won't hardly stop at all for at least a while.

RE: 2004 A6 front brakes

I have 52000 miles I kind of remeber having the say condition when Audi replaced the brakes at 25000 miles. You are correct after driving about 50 miles the pedal is back to normal and car stops fine. I have been a mechanic for 25 years and never had a problem like this. I whish I knew what causes this just to better understand. Also after reading the Audi repair manual, bleeding the system is alot more involved than having a buddy pump the pedal and hold. You need a pressure bleeder and a brake scan tool to activate brake pump.

Any way thanks for the reply.

2004 A6 S Line

I want to change the front brakes on my A6 S Line. Nothing online that shows how to remove the calipers. Is it just a case of removing the 4 torx bolts???? If anyone has any online videos or resources it would be greatly appreciated.
