Default Trouble fueling

I went to put gas in my A6 and the pump click off immediately one I start putting in gas.
The only way to get gas in the tank is to put the gas in very slowly. The pump clicks off like the tank is full, but the tanks is not even half full.
This has happened at different gas pumps.

I am not sure what would be the cause?

Any Ideas?
Thanks.

i had that problem when i owned my truck, it depends on where i went, and when to fill up, pretty much all it is, is that the gas is coming out so fast that the back splash is hitting the sensor in the nozzle to auto turn it off as if u had a full tank, a few things u can do to fix this is pull the pump out a little bit, and if that doesnt work u just have to keep filling it up slowly

I have done that and sometime the car will fill up just fine. When the fuel gives me trouble the car has had troubles as well. Once the car would not fuel up and then it dies on me about a mile later and would not start for half an hour. Is this just a coincidence or does the fueling trouble indicate something else?

It is just the pump, this commonly happened in my jeep and sometimes in my audi. You have to pull out the hose a little or maybe even put the hose in more. Sometimes if you don't get it at the right spot it will be pretty annoying. The guys who fill up my gas hate when it clicks every second or so. Try that and everything should work out great.

I have not had fueling issues for a while now, so that is good news. I heard that the issue could have been air or a vacuum inside the tank.

Once you remove the cap the tank is at atmospheric pressure.... so don't believe the vacuum or pressure stories.

Getting the correct angle of the fuel nozzle can be critical at some pumps... It depends on how the nozzle is setup. I usually know about how many gallons I need so when I get an early cut off I know -

Had this same issues with my A6 :P my younger brother gave me some tips which work everytime - If pomp click try to pull out your pump handle if not try to twist it and put fule with your pump handle with different angles , usualy the best is to pull it out little bit ,

I remember once I had so much trouble with it that I put only 2liter of fule into my car and I paid for it I cloud not put any more it was embarisng :P put 2 liter into A6 only hehe let me know if it helped

Knowing how far to put in the hose or how to move it in and out comes with experience. Keep trying, my lad.
