hello! I just bought a used 2012 audi A6 3.0 prestige model w/ 74000 miles about a month ago. The oil level light and warning went on saying that the level was low, but the service for oil change isn't for another 4900 miles.
Is it ok just to top off the oil with proper synthetic oil or should I take it to the dealership to get the whole filter and oil replaced?
also, anyone know of a good mechanic or garage in the bay area that specializes in audi cars who are honest and reasonable in pricing?
Thank you Blav88

If you feel so inclinded, you could do it yourself
Dealerships don't generally charge much more than local shops and you will get good oil.
If you do it yourself, I am a big fan of Royal Purple.
Something to consider, and a point to taking it to a dealer, why did you burn through that much oil

I would top it off and then have it changed per the indicator. One would assume the oil was full when you bought it last month, but I would carefully top it off and check it religiously for a while to determine if it is burning an abnormal amount of oil. The older 2.0Ts have a reputation for this, but generally not the 3.0s. Regardless, proper oil level is critical to the health of that engine to ensure the camshafts are well lubed.
