2013 Audi A6 - Can a broken slip ring be dangerous?
 

Hi:
I have a late 2013 A6 Black Edition Sln that has done only 27k miles. Whilst moving my car off my drive, at low speed, I heard a 'cracking/snapping' sound that turned out to be the slip ring breaking. I was unaware what had happened, but suddenly realised that i could not get the car in to full steering lock so have now had it replaced at my local Audi dealer.

It seems like a major parts failure to me, but wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this or knew what might have caused it to break in the first place and whether or not it could have had potentially serious consequences before i got it booked in to the dealer.

Any advice and views would be much appreciated.
