Default '98 A6 Quattro wagon...Buy or not?

Hi,

Brand new to the forum, hope to become a regular. I am in the process of considering purchasing an A6 Quattro wagon. One owner, very good condition, 80K miles. Looking for reasons NOT to buy this vehicle...mechanical querks, general reliability, ect. What should I be aware of/look out for? Vehicle is scheduled with local Audi Dealer for a buyers inspection. Owner is asking 11K.

Thanks,

DC

Default RE: '98 A6 Quattro wagon...Buy or not?

Seeing as how I just unloaded my '00 A6 Avant (W/ similar mileage), I might be able to give you some guidance....
(Mine's at a used car lot still for sale for around $11K, but you would have to drive down the coast a bit to get it.)
You will need all the info you can get on it's prior life - Service records? Run a Carfax for sure. Has timing belt been changed? Will need it soon - around $1K+.
.
Part of my reason for getting rid of my A6 ( which I LOVED driving, BTW ) was that every time something needed fixing, it was almost always at least $1k to fix it. (..and I'm no mechanic). If you understand that going in, you should be OK.
