Default Is this 98 A6 worth it?

Hi Im new to the forum as you can tell, and I was looking to purchase this 1998 Audi A6 http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false. I was wondering if this car was going to be worth it. I don't know much about cars, but I would like to learn. I read through the description and they just did the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, roller cams, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, spark plugs and an oil change and I know those are expensive repairs. This will be my first car and I need it to get back and forth from school. I also needed a car that drives well in the snow and i heard that the quattro drives well in snowy/icy conditions. Any help or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Remember this car is 12 years old and Audi's are expensive to repair. No matter what you spend you will need to have $3K in reserve to cover other expenses. You can save some by doing it yourself but even parts are expensive.

IMHO it is over priced by $3K to 5K.
If it is in perferct condition with an extended warantee it would be worth a max of $5K
otherwise closer to 3K.

Since you don't know alot about cars and need something for school you would be better off to get a rice burner - Honda, Toyota etc.

I'll second that 4K at best.

I bought an 02 in Feb of 09 for 6K with 114 on the clock and then put 4k into it!!!

Do your home work on the maintenance I would figure 2-3K for parts at least.
