Default 99 A6 with 88k miles?

Hey all,
New to the forum & love what I see so far. Top notch.
I'm in the market to purchase an A6 and looking at one in the NoVA area, not too far from me. It is an 1999 A6 quattro, with 88k miles, silver with black leather interior. The car fax is clean & is a 1 owner car, driven in & around DC/VA for the last 11 years.
In the test ride, I noticed a thumping/bumping/rubvbing sound coming from the drivers side front wheel well area. I'm no mechanic & cannot discern what different sounds might indicate, so I'm here asking fro some input. I can't explain the sound much better than to say it is a low-level bumping or thumping as I drive the car. It doesn't increase or get louder as I get faster and it is consistent regardless if I am going on smooth streets or rough road. CV joints? Something in the wheel base/axel area? Struts? Tie rods? Any thoughts?
I won't know more until later this week - we are getting killed with a decent snow storm & it'll be a while before I can get back to the car...

Second question - assuming i can figure out what this issue is and it is fixable for a decent cost, the asking price is $5100. An 1999 A6 with 88k in good condition for just about $5k? Sounds almost too good to be true, from what i have seen...thoughts?

Thanks in advance for the help...looking forward to contributing!

When I purchased my `99 Avant(w/131k) 10 months ago...it took $2400 & 25 DIY hours to get it mechanically/asthetically sound.

IMO, No need for unwanted surprises...take it to a local indy Audi specialist for a full evaluation before you commit.

COuld be something as simple as the inner fender liner has come loose and is rubbing. Could be brakes dragging.

Be sure to read the various stickies as these are expensive cars to maintain and not for the "take it to the dealer" types.
