A4 vs A6 common parts: Same part, different part #??
Good day
I want to know whether I could fit an A4 powersteering pump onto an A6. Please note that theengines are common between the two models: 2.4L 30 valve and thepumpslook identical, but the part numbers differ. I know that the passat also came out with the same motor. Is it possible that the A4 pump has a lower PSI? Does anyone have specs on this specific parts: 4BO145156 and 8E01451538?
Thank you
Michael

Check out the following two links and it might answer your question.

edit: forgot you have to login to view MNAudi.com content but there is the gist of it.
Here's how the VAG number numbering system works. I assume this may apply to a few more brands as well, and some dealer smelly brown ring is going to fly in here and correct me.
Take, for example, an AAN (20vt 5 cyl) oil filter housing, part number 034 115 714 C
The '034' part denotes which engine, or model of car the part is for. In this case, 034 is the number given to all Audi 5 cylinders. Draw your conclusions about the origins of 034 Motorsport from here.
The next 6-7 digits explain why your 'identical A4 and Passat part' are different.
Within the 034 category, there are groups and subgroups. They're divied up by the first and last two digits in the second group. In this case, the first 1 means engine, and I believe 15 means lubrication system.
Finally, the 714 is the actual part, with C being a revision suffix.
THUS! Your two part numbers are the same thing on each car there. However, because the first series of digits are different, there's no guarranty that they're actually the same part at all.
