A6

I'm looking in to getting a A6 in the C5 body. I'm wondering if to is better to go with the 4.2 V8 or is the 2.7T the better motor, I did want a S4 until I started my family but I think that the A6 is more family and there is a lot of play that can be done to the car, and it will make a great sleeper too. So right now I'm torn between the 4.2 burly V8 or the ever tweakable 2.7T. Right now I'm looking for some advise form anyone. I do have a 96 B5 2.8 12V that I'm going to keep for later use, maybe TDI switch but I'll dabble on that at a later time. So any pointers to the better motor would be appreciated.Any heads up to a tuner site, I checked out Achtuning's site and they are the only ones that really deal with the A6 with any avail. This isn't my first VAG so I know and love the VAG family. I'm not looking to go over board maybe push the car to around 350-400HP thank you fro any one that helps out.

The 4.2 comes with the wide body, which is a better looking car. The 4.2 is the better stock engine. If you are into mods then the 2.7 has more potential. Personally because of the looks of the wide body I would go with the 4.2.

Well, its is a personal preference and a decision that you will have to make. If you have plans of modding get the 2.7T (same drive train as an 6cyl S4). It is highly moddable. 350-400HP is a big deal. These cars are 250HP stock. Pretty respectable. Thats a significant amount of work to achieve 400HP. The 4.2 motor can be modded but the 2.7T motor is more preferable. Theres a 4.2 that VAST Performace did for a guy on here. Its sick!

I am jealous of the 4.2 body (the car is wider and the wheel wells stick it further; looks bad ass!

These are the big guys, very respected and trusted companies with excellent references ask anyone on here!

4.2 or bust

Well I have read and researched (very little) but i think I'm going with the 4.2 i don't want to deal with the hassle of turbos they are great but right now I think I will keep it to NA. now time to start looking for the beast. thank you

Good choice. Love my car, but wish I had the 4.2 body. I sound like a girl, don't I?

just a little

one other important difference worth noting. if you want a stick, only the 2.7 comes with one. although, there's at least one guy on here who has swapped out for a 6spd on his 4.2. not cheap tho.

dude the 4.2 is fine, i got to drive the 2.7 and the 4.2 before i made my decision, i have had a 2001 a6 4.2 for about 2 months now and i love it, the v8 is so smooth and very quiet, it may not have the kick of the 2.7t but its still awesome, alot of people also told me that the 4.2 will be more reliable than the 2.7 but in either case to prepare to open my wallet

it is a little about looks and the 6MT would be nice but that can wait for now. and i dont want to spend time replacing turbos that some tard destroyed before me or ran low on oil. if there is a problem i like NA because it easier to fix and a rebuild will give me soething to do and working with NA is just that much easier for that matter. And yes the 4.2 sound quite nice stock but you can always do more.

You made a great choice with the 4.2
