Default Which A6??

I am thinking of getting an A6, I wanted to know whick engine I could get the most power out of, I have between 4 and 5 thousand to get one. I want to be able to scare my friends pants off when he thinks he can beat me in his 2005 Infiniti G35.

With 5k you can't buy anything that would beat your friend's 2005 G35. And if that's all you have, better try to stay away from Audis.

Well, you may be able to score an older 2.7T with 5 k that you would chip with the rest of the money, but I doubt you'd have enough gains to beat a "factory native"-ly tweaked 280-298 hp engine.
As far as getting a 3.2 or a 4.2 to supercharge it, I highly doubt you can find anything like that for just 7-8k.
That's my opinion.
People who chipped their 2.7 could probably give you a better insight.

2.7T is the most moddable model. You can get some decent power with not too terribly much money. If you throw a bunch of money at it, you can make it a real beast.

I really don't think of my car as a 0-60 type drag car. Now from 60-140, that is a different story...

2005 3.2L engine vs 2005 G35
What the A6 2.7T has in it, 250 hp?
For $ 5000 it seems you can get into a 1997-2001(and maybe 2002) A6 2.7T. Any newer than that for that much money, they're probably beaten into the ground.
By the time you chip it, you'll have no money for maintenance.
And the whole idea is to just beat your friend's G35...

There's a 2001 4.2 on Craigslist for 7500 with 85k miles on it.

The cheapest and easiest way to beat your buddy's Infiniti is a baseball bat.
