A6 2.8liter wont swich from auto to manual
 

I've only had this car for a few months and am starting to have one problem after another. The first thing to happen was out of nowhere the gauge for manual shifting went out and lost the ability to shift from automatic. Occasionally the gauge will come on for a split second but very dim but still nothing. What could cause this to happen and how would I check & fix it? Having that option is why I decided to but the Car in the first place hopefully it's not something super expensive....

I also have a 2.8 A6... what you're talking about I think is the trip tronic where you slide it over and you go up and down to shift gears... there are magnets and the trip tronic I'm also having a similar issue. I haven't fixed it yet but what I've read about if you could replace the shifter from like a junkyard with hopefully it working on that should fix the issue or fix the magnets but like I said I never actually done the fix but it sounds like you're having a trip tronic switch issue. Tiptronic shifting issues won't usually cause a code I think.
