Default A6 3.0 oil light on

I have a 04 A6 I just put new rod bearings in but now the oil light comes on.Is there a timing procedure for installing the oil pump?I couldn.t find anything in Mitchel If the oil level is to high would that cause the light to come on?

The light comes on because the oil pressure is too low. If you just installed rod bearings I would be very suspicious that you did something wrong in the installation or there were other problems in the engine. If you needed new rod bearings because of poor oil pressure or because you ran low on oil there is a good possibility that some of the top end camshaft bearings are also damaged.

AFAIK there is no timing needed for the oil pump. Not sure where it is in the '04 but on many Audi's it is driven directly from the crank.

Good luck.

Generally, the same thing that caused the need for new rod bearings did the same for the main bearings. You may need to revisit the rod bearing clearances and the main bearing clearances to see what is happening. My first test would be to put a mechanical guage on the oil system to see what the real pressure is at different rpms since the oil pressure sending unit may be bad. Dont' want to be tearing into stuff without testing first.

I did find a timing procedure for the oil pump in Mitchell I have to bring # 3 cylinder to top dead center then rotate the balancer of the pump till the 5 mm pin centers in the alignment hole then put on the two gears.I will try this tomorrow and see if it works. Will post if this fixes the problem.BTW the light wasn't on till after I did the rod bearings.
