A6 Driverside Engine Compartment Smoking

Okay, I have a 1999 Audi A6 with 188k miles on it..the oil was probably changed 1000 miles ago. The car then had been parked for about 4 months when i went to go turn it on, within 10 minutes of having it on the engine started to have some smoke on it. There is a slow oil leak coming from the front part of the engine drivers side, but the smoke looks like its coming from the back near the coolant tank, any ideas could it be oil leaking on the hot engine causing it to smoke or is there something going on inside I should not be driving it.

Not sure what year your car is or what engine is in it but it probably valve cover gasket is leaking. Could also be a cam plug , timing chain tensioner gasket or coolant bottle leak.

with 188k your coming close to doing your timing belt once again. when you do so change the valve covers cam chain tensionors cam plugs. it will be OK if you drive your car like this just keep checking on your oil level every week. and get used to the smell lol.

dont change just the v/c gaskets as the leaks will come back within a few hundred miles. go ahead ask me how I know lol

It's 1999..I didn't post the engine type; it's the 2.8L V6 Quattro.
