A6 Key Stuck in Ignition and Shift Problem
Have 2007 A6 3.2 w/200K miles that recently developed a problem where the key was stuck in the ignition. At the same time the car would not shift out of 1st gear (had to manually shift). This happened when my wife was driving the car and I thought she did not put the car in park. (speaking from experience, I have accidentally done this
) The car was in park, but the key would not release.
I took the car to my local mechanic and he thought it was a major transmission issue and thought the car was headed to he junk yard! He did find there was a brake fault error code. I searched online and found someone had the exact same problem that was a faulty brake pedal light switch. My mechanic changed the brake switch and it fixed the problems - the car runs beautifully again!
It took me a long time to find the solution because it was buried in an old thread, so I am posting again. Hope this helps someone! Thank you to Audiforums and to Kfkyle! The link to the other thread is below.
