To A6 or not...???
Looking at the little sister A4? LOL
She might be enticing but consider where she came from. The A6 has more room and a big car feel. The A4 is peppy but it has many of the same parts and potential problems. Little sister will suck you in just like the big sister.
BUT EITHER ONE IS A FANTASTIC RIDE!!

80K is coming up quick on this car. If you buy the car be prepared to drop at least $700.00 in parts for the 80K service. Then factor in labor based on whether you go to the stealership at $95/hr or an honest indy mechanic for a little less (the book time for a timing belt is about 7 hours). I am at the 80K point and will be tearing the front-end down to do the timing belt/plugs/fluid drain/flush/etc. plus various parts in between that don't *need* to be replaced, but what the hell, cheap insurance to replace'em now while I got the thing tore down. I have about $700 in parts/fluid and I found a great mechanic to help me out with tools and what not for about $35/hr. So, good luck and as someone else pointed out: just remember that if you buy the Audi the purchase price is just the price of admission and the car will need repairs/maintenance down the road that is more costly that your plane jane american car.
I have had my '03 Audi A6 3.0 Quattro (w/tiptronic) for almost 2 years (purchased from orig. owner w/ maint. records). It just turned to 83K. It gets between 20.2-22.5 mpg. However, In the last 2 mos.....
1. Cat converter went (luckily I had it diagnosed and got it to the dealer b4 the 80K warrenty expired, one item of good luck)
2. Battery light stays on for 30-60 seconds after the car is started, dealer says it's the alternator (~$1,000 to repair)
3. "Check Engine" light just came on last week. Dealer says the codes indicate a bad torque converter in the transmission. (~$2,113.00 to repair)
4. Three days ago, the low water light came on. Water fill reserve is full and the car runs at a normal temp. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the best riding, driving car that I have ever had, but it is driving me to the poor house. Anyone for a used A6 or anyone know a good tranny shop in Virginia?

You can get a 3.0 reman alternator for around 200.00. Install can't be 800.00, find a good indy mechanic who will let you supply your own parts, just don't pay the dealer to do it.
