Which A6 should I buy?
 

Well the lease is up on my 05 Subaru Legacy GT LTD ( I know but it was my first AWD or turbo vehicle)and its time for a new toy. I am in love with the A6's with the rounded back end 03-04. I am split between which to buy. First off, I LOVE a standard trannsmission, auto's kinda annoy me. I have been looking at 2004 a6's and a very few have the 2.7T w/ a 6 spd manual, but they never made as an s-line 6spd/manual. Also I have a 63 dodge 340 which is a torque monster.(everyone talks about horsepower but torque does the talking). So the 4.2 seems like the logical choice. But again no 3rd pedal available :-( So the options are 2004 A6 2.7T w/ 6 spd manual, 2.7 T s-line, or the 4.2. I am planning on doing minor upgrades on whichever I choose but, I am in uncharted water for me here. :confused:I am used to pushrod valve V8's not FI european sedans. Also can someone explain to me any performace differences between the 2.7T and the s-line. (other than the 15hp everyone tells me about but with a new chip anyways wouldn't that be negated?).

S-line just has fancier trim level with negatible 15 hps. 4.2 is quick and robust as a stock, but 2.7T gives you more tuning opportunities. 4.2 is more of a reliable motor in comparison to 2.7T. If you had a Mopar 340, 4.2 will probably have a similar characteristics. No, it will not have that high cam lobe idle, but pretty throatty anyways. But on the other hand, 2.7T can be easily modded to equal (if not better) 4.2 Either one is a great choice.

^^^Don't forget an automatic 2.7t is a tenth of a second quicker to 60 than the 4.2. And thats stock vs stock. Don't plan on getting too much more power if you decide to go with the 4.2. It you want 350+ hp you gotta go 2.7t, auto or 6 speed.

2.7t Auto = 0-60 in 6.6
2.7t 6 speed = 0-60 in 6.0
4.2 (always auto) = 0-60 in 6.7

How long are you looking to keep your Audi? Whichever one you go with, unfortunately they are very different to Japanese cars. Don't expect the same brick built quality. There are pros and cons with each.

That being said, read about high mileage maintenance issues with these before you decide which to go with.

On a side note, anyone know the offical S6 2002 6 Spd manual 0-60 time? Should be quicker than a stock 2.7t 6 Spd manual, but how much?

I never knew.... Wow I always assumed that big v8 would fly off the line! Anyway if you don't want to spend a ton of money on mods/mant. go with the 4.2. Plus its sexier!
