A6 tire wear problem

I have a 1999 A6 Avant Quatro. I am having a serious problem with the two right side tires wearing down on the outside edge. I believe that the recall work has been done on the arms. Pressure is OK. I do not drive agressively. Just normal city/highway.

I have taken it to a mechanic and to an alignment person. The mechanic saw nothing out of the ordinary under the car. The alingment was where it should have been. He tweaked the alignment a bit. Still have wear. It has essentially ruined a less than 2 year old set of tires.

Is there some sort of known problem with this car? If not, anyone have any ideas.

Shocks?

So this is not a known/common problem? The car does not feel in need of shocks, but I have no experience with Audi and shocks. It has about 45,000 miles on it and all very vanilla driving on good roads. I am taking it in again in a few weeks and have the mechanic look it over again for a reason for the tire wear.

Anyone else have any suggestions.

Did you buy it new? If not I can look up the service history, it might provide some insight.

Yes, it was new.

The wear you describe sounds like a camber issue with the alignment. Do you have sagging springs on the drivers side? Meaning it sits lower on the drivers side than the passenger side. Do you carry alot of weight on the drivers side versus the passenger side.

I am usually in the car alone but I would think that that should be well within load capacity. No heavy loads. I will give all of the suggestions from here to the mechanic when I take it in for service. The sensor for the transmission has crapped out. My backup lights are always on and sometimes when I first start driving the transmission won't shift out of first gear without being stopped and cycled through park and back to drive.

I think I remember the alignment person saying that there are minimum camber adjustments available on the A6. I am not sure. It was about 5 months ago and my span of attention seems to be measured more in days as I become a senior citizen.

The rear camber can be adjusted into spec as long as nothing is bent. The front camber can only be shifted from side to side. Each side cant be individually adjusted. So it may not be possible to get both sides into spec.
