A6 Tires
 

I have an 04 A6 3.0. I need new tires and I am looking for recommendations. I have Pirelli P6's now and they are terrible. I heard Mich. Pilot Exalto's are good. Any thoughts?

I would try Toyo Poroxes

I had great experience in the past with Falken Ziex-512, on a Taurus (similar in size as you know with an A6). Good traction on both, snow and rain, while maintaining quietness throughout the life of the tire. I heard that the "new" model -912 suppose to be a little stiffer (better cornering), but I couldn't vouch for that claim.

Pretty recently, I purchased for a different car Hankook Optimo H418 (at the time, was cheaper than the Falken). Although reviews are mixed (as mixed as people's driving styles), the tire appears to me as one being great in cornering, very quiet, excellent traction on snow (but with a smaller car - a station wagon), and outstanding handling on wet pavement. I only had them for about 2,000 miles and cannot give a verdict on "long term" treadwear, but is rated Treadwear A, Temperature A, with 60,000 miles treadlife warranty, therefore it should not disappoint in that regard.

And most recently, I purchased for the Audi Continental ContiPremier Contact, a 80,000 miles tire with a 600 rating (Treadwear A, Temperature A). Even though the reviews are also mixed (lots of people complaining about the road "noise"), I purchased this kind because they were even cheaper (at this time) than the Hankooks... I can hardly wait to put'em on.

All these three tires cost less than half the price of a Michelin...
You may also want to look into Kumho Solus KR-21 (680 rating, 80,000 miles, Treadwear A, Temperature B).

I have been very happy with Goodyear D3s in the summer and Dunlop M3s in the winter. If you want to stick with all-season tires, I was happy with Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S before I switched to season dedicated tires. You should take a look at the ratings at Tirerack.

Hands down Yokahama Avid. They have a very high milage and the higest traction and heat ratings. Equal to the Conti Pro Contacts. The Yoks are a performance all season. I have them on one of my cars and will be putting them on the audi once the dunlops on it are done.
