Cool A6 v8 tranny issues

Hi new to forum. I have a 2003 A6 Q V8 with 132,000 miles and it has just started to have an issue with the transmission slipping at low speed as it changes up. In sport manual mode it runs great but just at low speed going from 1st to 2nd in auto mode it occasionally slips then clunks into drive and is off.
At speed it seems to work fine and changes as normal.
What am I looknig at here and does anyone have a good idea of a rebuild or replacement cost if the news is bad?.

the 4.2 is know for tranny problems. most people rebuild it only for it to fail again. some swap it out for a 6 speed manual.

the rebuild costs around 2-3k.

if you have a vag-com scan the tranny for codes. since you havent lost your gears or the PRNDS isnt lit up i would say it probably the torque converter. but it you dont get it fixed soon itll end up being more than the torque converter.
