ABS Brake/No diagnostics

ABS Brake light flashing along with the self diagnosis for fluid brake etc inoperable. My Mecahanic ( very experienced Audi people) felt the ecu was gone and would need replacing.

This morning whenI tarted the auto the ABS Brake was NOT flashing and the auto went thru the old routine to OK. After a drive and turning it off upon restarting the ABS Brake was flashing and again the usual diagnostic wont work.

Any thoughts?

very complicated area as when you start the cell is normal but when you move the light comes on and that indicates a wheel sensor or the ABS/ECU has failed

Actually the light always comes on when you start the auto lately never shuts off. This morning it didnt and actually drove the car for 20 miles everything normal. WhenI stopped I manually started the diagnostic went to ok. Two hours later upon restarting it was back to the ABS/Brake flashing and no diagnostic. Can the two be interelated? IE the diagnostic I would think would work even with a bad ABS/ECU. Has anyone else lost the diagnostic after the ABS/BRAKE starts flashing in their auto.

I had very similar symptoms. Try www.modulemaster.com. For $200 to repair the module, $57.50 in postage both ways and a little of my time removing and replacingmy ABS control module my 1998 A6 Quattro 2.8 brake system is again operating perfectly.

I agree with rmknox. I have a 2000 2.7 with the exact same symptoms as you. I sent it to modulemaster. Problem solved. Good luck.

Yea mine has been goin off for a couple months now and its starting to annoy me so I checked out the linked site and im gonna send mine real soon. One thing isn't clear tho...can I still drive my car w/o the module? I wanna double check before I do anything. If someone can let me know I'd appreciate it. Thanx

You can drive the car without the control module. You won't have ABS, so take it easy. Of course, if the module is bad, you don't have ABS now, either.

This is the best deal for an ABS module failure.

Just be sure to do a good job covering the place the module was removed from to keep dirt out while it is being fixed.
