ABS light is on! HELP ME!
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, and pretty new to Audi (just around a year). So after getting my check engine light fixed (a vacuum problem from a faulty valve), I've got to find out why my ABS light is on.
My car: 2003 Audi A6 4.2 with 105000 miles
What happened: after a few days of just the ABS light coming on once in a while when starting (would usually go away when turning off and on), the ABS light comes on and the traction control (like turning off the ESP) light is on. Every so often, it will be off when I turn the car on, but now most of the time it is on.
I've tested to see if my ABS was off when the light is on, it IS off. When the light is off the ABS is on.
I, personally, think it's a connection problem, but can't figure out where. The ABS is a BOSCH system, and that's all I know.
The brake light is not on, there is no blinking in the lights.
I need to have the car fixed ASAP, and as a student, I'm looking for the cheapest way. I've already wasted $300 on the check engine light 2 weeks ago.
Thanks

get it scanned for codes. If you don't have access to an Audi specific scan tool (vag-com) you can go to a local chain auto parts store ie: autozone and have them scan it for free. post back codes and we may have a better idea of what the problem is.
Most likely your ABS module is going. Its a common issue on Audis that are of a similar age to yours. Module Master will rebuild the module for you cheaper than you can buy a new on (not sure what the going rate is). ABS module removal is pretty easy and requires just a few tools. Your car is still drivable with the module removed.

If you are a student, you are in the wrong car. An Audi is expensive to own. You cannot afford it. Sell it and get something to get you through school so you can concentrate on what is important - school!
Good luck in your studies!

I did something stupid (buying a car that I could afford to purchase, but not afford to keep), and I'm stuck. I just wanted help from the guys out here. I can't even pay for the ga$ from the 4.2L V8 + Quattro!
It was the same price as a civic, and I should've got the civic...
Thanks though!
To sell a car with the ABS light on, you simple say "the ABS light is on but it doesn't seem to affect operation" in your advertising. Expect to take a hit on the price. Then, look for a good used Civic.
Good luck,

Does anyone have a diagram/pics for the ABS sensors or just he ABS in general? I really do think one of my sensors are bad, because when disconnecting the ABS box from the computer, I got the flashing brake light as "madridlover" has mentioned.
I am NOT paying $100 for a code read from Shell... period.
