Default Advice on 2.7T 6-speed A6

I'm looking at selling my A4 in the next few months and I'm interested in getting a 2003 A6 2.7T. I've heard that the A6's have some electrical problems, is that correct? Can anyone tell me of their experience with this car, likes/ dislikes? Thanks,

Brett

I can't say that I have heard of any. I have a 2000 and to this day I have had no problems at all with the electrical system.

No problems here. One source of problems that you'll read about is water. Keep it out and you'll be fine. There are drains (two in the battery compartment and the ones for the sunroof) that can occasionally clog. If they do, it can cause water to enter the passenger compartment (typically in the area of the passenger footwell). If that happens, interior electronics can get fried. Just keep your drains clear and you're fine. Biggest culprit is leaves/pine needles/other debris entering the battery compartment and clogging drains. Clean once a year and you'll be fine.

I've never heard of the A6 having inherent electrical problems.
They do require some TLC at times as there are some essential maintenance items you should look into.
Timing belt, control arms, shocks, just to name a few.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it. Over the last few days I've done some extensive research on the S4, A6 and BMW 540's and M5. For what i want, the A6 is the overall leader. I just still haven't driven one The one thing I'm not too hot on is the front fascia. I saw an awesome looking from fascia on an A4 today (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...mp;cardist=664)

A6's have no more electrical issues than the A4......just make sure everything(and i mean everything) in the car works before you purchase it......

I bought a 2003 A6 2.7T MT6 in March 2005 with 37K miles and now have 87K. My repair history...
- 34K replaced brake sensor under warranty
- 43K rear brake pads under warranty
- 49K fixed rear transmission seal leak under warranty
- 70K replaced alternator after hitting pothole
- 74K installed GIAC chip, Bailey DVs, and Samco TBB
* 95K targeting timing belt replacement and maybe clutch too

More problems than my 2002 Saturn VUE, but also a lot more fun and comfortable to drive.

I paid $28,500 for the car including a set of 18" SSR rims with well worn summer tires. It also has a tow bar which I have never used. Still feel ahead of the game since it stickered at over $45,000.

I've had tons of problems with my A6 2.7t. My advice would be to stay away unless you live close to the dealer and buy one with a warranty. I've had my car for 1 year and here's what's happened so far:

-Auto leveling headlights constantly need adjustment
-3 hazard flasher switches (yes 3 in one year)
-ABS relay
-3 CTS sensors (still working on this one, search for recurring p1296)
-rear power window switch failed, replaced
-front passenger power window grinding and getting stuck when moving up or down
-car sputters when premium fuel is used in higher elevations, I live in colorado, and had to downgrade to 85 octane above 7000ft so the car will run

Oh yeah, and this was an Audi Certified Used car when I bought it, which means it's still under warranty, and they still cant get it fixed.

If you want a 2.7t real cheap, I'll sell you mine for next to nothing. '02 - 49k miles, loaded.

Sorry to hear about all the problems you've been having, there's nothing more frustrating. Unfortunately I don't think I'll take you up on the offer to buy your car. I'll probably still pursue an A6 since my A4 has been trouble free.
