Default Advice on my new 2.7T purchase

Hello everyone. I have been reading these forums for quite a while because I have been thinking on buying a 00' A6 2.7T for a while now. I finally found one that was babied and I really like it (and my price range is right around 10K). It has 84000 miles on it, and he just did the full timing belt, water pump, etc replacement. I am 90% sure Im going to get it, but I'm going to get it checked out by a mechanic before I pruchase. I was wondering, with an A6 with that many miles, what specifically should I have the mechanic look for on the A6 2.7T? What are some possible things that go wrong on the A6 at high mileage? Here is a picture of my future ride. O so sexy

Thanks for your input !

Hopefully you have a good independant mechanic who specializes in euro's. With that being said, they will know what to look for. They should put the car on a lift and check the car from the bottom up.

Having the timing belt performed already is crucial, so cudo's there!

With 84K, make sure belts, hoses, suspension and electronics are looked over. Like I said, with a good mechanic they will know what to look for and keep you informed.

Congratulations and Good Luck!

OOOO

This will be my 1st "euro" car, so I honestly dont have a good euro mechanic but I live in a decent sized city, so I hope it wont be too hard to find one. I just know Im not going to take it to the dealership. Haha. I just put an offer on it, so I am in the process of buying now. I will be getting more pice this weekend and I hope to post them. Any and all input would be great. Thanks Joeski

I put an offer down on it, he is asking 10900$ but I probably cant come up with that much, but hopefully something close. Im pretty sure we can work it out. Here are some things it has

2000 Audi A6 2.7T Quattro (Silver with Black leather int.)
84000 babied miles
18" Ronal Wheels with Toyo Proxi-ES Tires
Sport Package
Cold Weather Package
Xenon HID Headlights
Timing Belt, Tensioners, Water pump replaced

Im pretty sure Im getting a good deal on the car, and Im excited to own it.

yea, i agree, having a mechanic that is very familiar with euro cars is much better than some firestone or whatever. also, dont trust those "oh my friend is a mechanic" or the "i have a personal mechanic" id rather go someplace thats a chain, because its a reputable name

thanks twin turbo, i did read your *newbie* guide and it was helpful, i was just wondering if anyone else had any input. i test drove it again and looked at service records yesterday, and i was very pleased. not only did he to the "80K" maintenance, but he had O2 sensors and tie rods replaced as well. So I believe getting this A6 2.7T for 10,500$ with all the maintenance done is a great deal.
