Question airbag.

I have an airbag light on and it doesn't appear to be the typical underseat wire. so, I'm looking at replacing the passenger side airbag. Has anyone done this before? I would appreciate any instructions before I tackle this. I know that I need to be super careful, and I've been reading some other diy's-just thought I would check here as well.

What faults are you getting? Just curious, I have no useful help to provide.

I have an airbag light and vag com said it was the passenger airbag. There is a wire under the pasenger seat that shorts out and is a common problem, but that does not seem to be my issue. It is my understanding that the airbag system is disabled when there is a fault.

I'm going to fix it, I just haven't gotten around to it. Its a PITA to get everything from the console out to check the part number but I want to do it soon. I've also heard that I will need to recode the module for the new car with vag which I only recently got.

You need to VAG any airbag light. The light needs to be reset also, even if it were the wire under the seat, the light doesnt turn off after it is fixed UNTIL it is reset. So a airbag light that stays on by itself means in no way that your module is necessarily dead. In can just as easily mean the wire underneath a seat needs to be cleaned (the more common problem). Dont just replace the side airbag either, the dealer might try to persuade you to do that. Out of all the people I have heard of with a passenger side airbag code from VAG, none of them actually had a faulty airbag, they just needed the wires cleaned under the seat. And you are right about having to be careful, dont use any sort of electrical meter on any of the wires, and ground yourself before you start fooling around with anything.
