Default Alternator

I just have a quick question.
I posted a while ago maybe 1 month, that my alternator went out. I havent had time or money to be able to fix it ( and I want to keep it that way since I would save money if I dont use my car) but I want to keep it well maintained.

My battery now is DEAD, the lights done even come on or anything on the dash board.

I am just wondering, is it ok for me to have the battery dead?? Will the computer have problems in the future? Should I get a battery charger and keep charging the battery? I dont know if this would be good because I woudnt know if it might overheat the alternator and cause more damage

thanks for any replies

it would be best if you had a trickle charger and keep the battery up.

In fact it is best to have a charged battery when changing the alternator because ithe alternator can overheat whier trying to charge a battery that is very low. not ot mention you've probably already lost the raido code etc.

Well I have my radio code, that shouldnt be a problem. THe battery is covered for 3 years I beleive by NTB so I am fine with that. I just dont want the computer to end up failing me in the future, I love this car, I have had it for 4 year now.......... and I dont want anything to happen to it. I just cant make the repairs now

As I said I'd put it on a trickle charge.

I'd disconnect the battery and then put it on a trickle charger, just in case the dead alternator has a short in it.
