Any one here cut their coils?
Im going to order some drop coils in a few months when I get some money together. In the mean time, I think i'm going to cut a half a coil from the stock springs. It should give it a 1 1/2 to 2" drop.
I dont do any spirited driving, I just cruise mostly and always on highways so I'm not really afraid of poor handeling. Also, I've done this on a 2 car awhile back and never ran into any problems. I just want to ask you guys here just incase I may run into an unforeseen problem that Audi's might have. So....Anyone here done it yet??? |
ehhh I think most people leave that to the jdm crowd

Once I encountered a guy that has cut his skis in order to shorten them.
Guess what happened after? |

You cant cut the springs, maybe the rear. The front springs diameter gets smaller on the ends. If you cut it, it will no longer sit in the perches as it is suppose to.

Leave it alone and drop it correctly. You screw up the design of the suspension by cutting them, and you can accelerate the wear on the struts as well, since you effectively end up preloading them by running cut coils. Rebound control goes to hell, the ride suffers, and parts wear out. Leave the mickey-mouse corner-cutting to the guys with the four-door, beige, 1986 Civic "Type-R"s and either lower your Audi correctly or leave it at stock height.

Lol, will do guys!
