Arrow Audi A6 2009 vs. BMW 528 xi 2009

Hi guys, i have been looking for a car and my interest spark the 2009 Audi a6 and the BMW 528xi. Which is a better car overall? Im looking for 3.0 TFSI Engine with 4 wheel drive. The guy at BMW is giving me a fully loaded 528xi for 1450 tax in for a month. I Have owned 3 audis before and 1 bmw before. I would have to say the experience was delightful for both cars. Is there any common problems with any of the cars? Which one is the better buy. (I live in Canada) Also i have to say is the audi dealership is 1 hour away and the bmw dealer ship is 5 mins away.

The A6 is a faster car but the BMW handle a bit better. The quattro is better in the snow than the BMW AWD. The interior is much nicer in the Audi, IMO the A6 also looks better on the outside as well. Overall, the A6 have more pros than the 5-series.

Just curious: if you have enough money for a new Audi, why don't you buy an A8?
The signature says it was your best driving/ownership experience ever.

What do the guys on the BMW forum say?

I'm not sure you can get an objective opinion from either source. I suggest you do some research in Car & Driver or Road & Track.

I looked at a 330i before my A6 and walked away due to price and size. I really wasn't looking for an Audi when I fell into it, and have never regretted buying it. From what I have read, the newer Audis are far more reliable that the <2006 models.

Why not a lightly used A8 over a new A6 or Beemer?

I will first off say, that asking an unbias group would get you better answers.

BUT

I work for BMW as an quality and launch engineer. Eventhough I drive an audi, when it comes to a newer car, BMW has made extreme improvement in quality compaired to there 2005 and younger models. An audi starts hitting those "problem miles" at 80-100K, a 2009 beamer is being said to hit 105 or so before it hits that gray area.

obviously this is an assumption because no 2009 model has hit that milage yet on the real road (outside of validation tests).

BUT

if you are gonna be getting rid of the thing before you see 50K, the audi will be a funner ride =)

With no reliability, performance, and durability other than on paper for new models, it basically comes down to guessing the outcome of the:
Ultimate driving experience vs Truth in Engineering duel. For whatever those commercials "labels" are worth.
If BMW is the "ultimate driving experience, I wonder what this could be labeled as?
I learned not to trust commercials anymore, so basically it comes down to your own experience and bias with both cars, since you previously owned both brands.
Personally I thought the BMW is the more sporty and fastest of the two (so much for perception), but I have never driven one.

Well the a8 was 04, it was roughly driven and not taken care of. i LOVED the car and so did the kids beacuse of the room. Im just looking for a sporty and luxury car. The guy at bmw's are giving me a 2009 528xi fully loaded bmw for 995 a month, 5008 upfront. I am leaning more to the audi side but i still have to test drive it. I dont buy a used car beacuse i get bad luck and find one that someone just laid a dump on. So far the best car iv ever owned was a 04 a8 but it is gone. The only problem is the nearist audi dealership is 1 hr there. And BMW is giving me full warranty (no brakes and gas) free until 80k i think it is. The audi is way more outstanding then the BMW buy alot. The led lights just make me drizzle.

OK i'm all for the >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bugatti!

256MPH Holy crap that's fast, That guy looks like he could have a coffee in the cup holder too. If you have not watched it click that link.

I personally can not comment on the newer BMW vs Audi but I found older BMW's a little stiffer more sporty and Audi more luxurious more refined interior wise.

I do think my A6 is far more sporty than the A8. I also have more fun driving the A6. Could be why the 3.0 has lower MPG than the 4.2. It's quicker in the turns I find myself trying to get in and out of the lane reflectors without hitting them. It feels like the car wraps around you when your driving.
