Audi A6 - BOSE Radio goes to MAX volume by itself.
Guys,
My Audi A6 - 2002, has a Bose sound system, and just recnetly, the radio has started to increase in volume on its own to MAX -- Super loud, unless I turn it off. even if i try to turn it down it automatically tries to go back up. Not a problem everyday but when it happens, i have to turn off the radio and wait a few momments before trying to turn it on again. Any advice on this? How much it might cost to fix?
Thanks

Sounds like it might be able to be fixed just by cleaning the contacts inside the ****. So you'll have to take out the radio and then take some of it apart, if you're not comfortable with this then either get a new radio or find someone to do it for you.

Audi Bose radio's do not have reostat volume control - I think they call it phase lock loop. Your problem is somewhat common and requires that the circuit be repaired. There used to be a guy in Florida and another in Mass that would fix the radio for around $100

I said BOSE because he has BOSE and I am familure with BOSE because all my A6's have or had BOSE. At least two of the BOSE radios had the infamous "'full volume on it's own problem" and the only fix was a new BOSE radio or repair.
Since a replacement BOSE radio is around $100 (used) and sometimes you have to spend another $75 - $100 to get the code from a dealer the repair road is usually less expensive. But - I probably don't know what I'm talking about.
I hear that they are using dawn to clean the oil soaked Gulf animals but I hope he dosen't do that to a BOSE Audi radio. On the other hand - if he uses soap and water to clean the contacts the question of replace or repair will be quickly answered.

Again, there is NO difference between a Bose and non-Bose headunit in an Audi vehicle (i can only confirm this up to 2004).

So all in all, all of the speakers and amplifiers are located in the same location for both Bose and non-Bose, they're just upgraded (while the headunit remains unchanged except for a VAG-COM programming).
