Default Audi A6 Questions

Hi all, first post on the forums!

I'm in the market for a 2005 Audi A6 2.4L Petrol Saloon Automatic (MultiTronic).

I confess to be a novice in the area of Audi terminology, so any help would be massively appreciated.

1 -My first question is the biggest one for me - what is the miles per gallon rate, based on an equal balance of motorway/city driving?

2 - How reliable are these cars? The car I'm looking at getting has 173k miles on the clock - Is there any known issues that pop up after a while?

3 - What is Multitronic? Sorry for the newbie question!

4 - Is this the Quatro model or front wheel drive?

If it is permissible, I can post a link to car on dealers website.

Any help of any kind would be greatly appreciated. Any reviews or advice from owners of similar cars would be fantastic too!

All the best,

Conor
PS - Based in Ireland if that makes any difference.

1. Gas mileage would be a guess with as many miles as this car has IF your budget is tight to the point that gas mileage is your #1 concern I would suggest you not buy a car with 173K miles. Any car with that many miles is going to require repairs no matter what make or model.
2. The cars are good and reliable provided the previous owners did the recommended maintenance. If they did not you could have a lot of problems. 173K is a lot of miles. I would verify records especially timing belt replacement and frequency of oil changes and transmision service.
3. Multitronic is the transmission type if I am not mistaken.
4. They made both so you would have to check that with the seller.

I would be careful on this car. It has high miles but IF the service records are there and you are getting a good price it could be a good deal. I would not buy it if there are no service records unless you have a mechanic check it out very well first.

Thanks a million for the great reply.

I am quite wary of the mileage, but what's attracting me is the low price, a 3 month warranty and a excellent full service history. I'd be happy to pay for repairs eventually if it's as good a car as I think it will be.

Price is very reasonable from a dealer at €3950. Can I post a link to the dealers page for it?

Sorry I have been away for a bit. I am in the USA so link away as far as I am concerned. Not sure about forum rules for that sort of thing. If the dealer has been around a while and you know the're a reputable place...go for it. I would look at the records to see when the last timing belt/ water pump service was done.
