auto gearbox solenoid - where is it?
Hi Guys,
As above really, does anyone know where I should look to find the solenoid and relay that allows you to move the automatic gear selector? I have changed the brakelight switch and still the lever won't budge, so next seems to be the solenoid, but I don't know where to find it!! Any help would be fantastic - especially if anyone has a picture :D Cheers, Stewart |
I would suggest testing these items before replacing them. You could get very tired and very poor by replacing components, as part of your troubleshooting process. The wires going to the coil should be subjected to an OHM test. It will either read some value ( 20 OHMs ex. good ) or read open ( bad ) or very high 2000 OHMs ( bad ).
Take your time, find the real problem. |
Any luck with the solenoid issue? I'm having the same problem. Replaced shift interlock solenoid twice and still getting stuck in Park.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. No real luck so far. I have replaced the white brakelight switch (the top one of the pair) and I'm still having problems: If I start the car with my foot on the brake then I can get the lever to go through the gears, but if I start the engine without my foot on the brake and then press the brake pedal it won't move. I'm just so sick of this car that I want to get it fixed so I can get rid of it, but typically I seem to have more problems now than before I decided to sell it!! Any further suggestions would be gratefully received. :) Cheers, Stewart |
can't get a brake!
The experiment you did ( brake solonoid works when you hold brake pedal and turn the engine on ) proves that the circiut functions. The next question is: What inhibits the signal when the ignition is already on and then you depress the brake pedal. What would inhibit that signal.
Emergency brake engaged? |
Hi Jackson,
Thanks for the reply. What is the emergency brake please matey? Cheers, Stewart |
IN UK speak, this would be known as the " hand brake ". I 'm sure you checked that i was trying to illustrate that the solinoid disengage function is being inhibited by some other input.
