Auxillary cooling fan...
OK...so my auxillary cooling fan does not come on. So I replaced it and also the auxillary fan switch. Still it does not come on. Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I might be overlooking? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Marcin

RE: Auxillary cooling fan...
The auxillary fan is not supposed to come on until the coolant gets hot. The switch is a 2-stage switch, it comes on if coolant is between 92-97C ( 198-207F). If the coolant doesn't get up to this temp then the fan won't come on, not needed.

RE: Auxillary cooling fan...
For a 1998 A6 wagon OBDII USA and Canada:
Look on the side of the relays for a schematic diagram, so you know which terminals are for the relay coil and which are for the relay contacts. One of the relay contact terminals should get 12 volts. If not, then you may have a blown 60Amp fuse, which is not listed in your owners manual. You may find this Maxi fusebehind the left footwell cove in front of the left front drivers door. The door sill may have a hidden cover which hidesseveral screws. The footwell cover may also have a hidden screw. The cooling fan relays are in the box in the plenum on the left side. The box should have a label, which identifies the relays. The coolant fan control switch has three wire, with one going to ground and the other two going to the relay coils. So, if either of the wires going to the relay coils is grounded, then the cooling fan should run. Also, check fuse S13 and the load reduction relay. If S13 is geting 12 volts with the ignition switch turned on, then it is not the load reduction relay. The cooling fan relay coils are powered by fuse S13.

RE: Auxillary cooling fan...
Your 1998 A6 mayhavethe 2.8L 5valve AHAengine. The 1998 A6 wagon has the 2.8L 2valve AFC engine. Also, the wagon is based on the C4 chassis. Check the auxiliary fanswitch forhaving three pins or four pins. The 1998 wagon hasthe three pin fan switch. If you have the four pin auxiliaryfan switch, then you must have a different cooling fan circuit andyou may want to buy the Audi shop manual from BentleyPublishers.com. You can google "audi parts" to find pictures of the three and four pin auxiliary fan switches for your A6.
