Avant 3.0 auto transmission loud clanging noise - no gears. Not even Park
 

My wife's 04 Avant has been a great car. I have offered but she refuses to drive any newer car that is not an Audi. However, the other day, just as she was pulling in the driveway, the tranny went out. she coasted to the bottom of the driveway and when she shifted into park, there was a loud grinding noise. I mean LOUD. Car would not move in any gear, forward or reverse. and in PARK, the car continued to roll. I am hoping there is a simple, DIY fix for this because, as I said, my wife loves her Audi and the last time a transmission went out on my other audi, it cost several thousands to replace it.

all I can offer is to have it towed. Chances are something nasty fouled up down there.
