average oil temp while driving
Ive noticed my car which is a 2000 A6 2.7t will go up to about 250 degrees(middle) and then some times itll fluctuate and go up to 300 (close to red but never hits it) then back down. I was curious if everyone elses 2.7t engine stayed at one oil temp or if its normal for it to change like that.

RE: average oil temp while driving
I dont know if it will help, but I drive a a6 and my oil temp gets to around 100 C. Never gotten any higher than that, its the quarter on my dial.

RE: average oil temp while driving
That sounds suspect, I've driven my A6 at high speeds for 4 hours straight before and didn't get passed the half way mark, might want to look into that depending on other responses.

Those temps seem real high, I mean above the temp that oil breaks down. My temps are about the same as shatcher's. Only in real hard driving do my temps rise above 1/4 on the gauge, as soon as I let up the temp begins to drop back to what is normal for my car.

RE: average oil temp while driving
Usually around 200 to 225. Goes up to near 250 when I am climbing California Sierras doing 80+ mph. 300 does not sound right.

RE: average oil temp while driving
today its been sitting right under 250. Somedays its fine and then others itll climb and drop. Where is the oil temp sensor located? Is it possible its going bad? Has anyone heard of it going bad?

RE: average oil temp while driving
250 seems about right but 300 is not normal. Mine never budges the 250 mark even when i am stomping on it
