boost controller?

boost controller?
I have a 2000 2.7t M6 and I was wondering if I could just usea good boost controller @ say 15 or so lbs. of boost instead of theGIAC or similar chip. I see a lot of people using controllers along with the chips, but I don't understand why. Does our computer not support higher boost levels on its own?

RE: boost controller?
It's usually better to have a car that's chipped for the amount of boost then it is to get a boost controller to manually up your boost. The chip is created to make that amount of power of your vehicle by adjusting fuel pressure, air pressure, and yes the amount of boost that is created without damaging any parts in the motor. The chip is more efficient and safer to use than a manual boost controller. You can try but you'd be putting a lot of strain on your turbos. There's a reason why some people pay $600+ on computer chips compared to $100 for a boost controller.
It's more reliable and safer.

RE: boost controller?
actully just putting on a boost controler will do nothing but put you into limp mode the car won't make more boost.
GIAC has some files that have a large range of boost devation before limp mode will take effect. so I have a mbc on my car. this lets me have a more aggressive boost ramp and I can adjust my boost level by 3 lbs up or down. if you get a tcd you can run what ever boost levels you wish with no limp mode. this will not work on mtm or apr.
I run a rediculous amout of boost with my mbc. the turbos are still fine..(for now) but you need to know what you are doing and have the right suporting mods before you start adjusting things
