bumpty bump now gone
I had an interesting thing happen this week. As many of you knoiw I drive 100 miles each day. This last Thursday I started getting a vibration at around 85 MPH.
On Friday it was so bad I had to slow to 55 to just to keep my teeth in place.
On Sat I jacked up the car and found a big hicky in the tread of the left front tire.
I went to Michelin Man and he said "tough sh*t" your driving in Mass and we all know they have the worlds biggest pot holes.
I was lucky enough to have an extra matching Michelin Exalto on the shelf in the garage so I had Walmart switch and balance the tire for around $13.00 (I was not going to continue a conversation with the Michelin man.) Now everything is OK again.
I never had these problems with the BF Goodrich TAs or the Yoko TRZs at 3/4 the price.

I neglected to mention that this is the second Michelin Exalto that has succumbed to the Mass holes - and I don't run them in the winter when the roads are really bad...
IMHO - they are not good tires...

I hate michellin tires, they have the weakest side walls in the business. They say it makes the ride much better, but it also causes the tire to develop bubbles in the tire, which can cause a seperated bead either blowing up the tire or causing a massive vibration.
The best tire construction are pirelli, toyo, BfGoodrich, Cooper, and goodyear. There are a couple other brands, but these are the ones i have worked with that i have mended inside and out.

Interesting you would say that, most people that pay too much for a tire are afraid to admit they are lousy. I just threw away two 3000 mile Michelin Pilot All Season 255/35/20tires from the front of my XKR. They were shedding tread all over the place and completely unbalanceable. Worst tires I've had in 40 years. I like Sumitomo HTR III summer tires for the car, smooth, quiet and grippy.
