Default Burning Oil - 1ltr every 2-3000km

I have an A6 2.0T FSI that is burning 1ltr of oil every 2-3,000km. The car is just under 2 yrs and has 50K on the clock. Oil is not leaking and garage pointed out page in service manual that says the car could burn 1ltr for every 1,000km - this is mad and cannot be right.

To make things worse, I cannot buy oil as it is "special oil" so I need to keep going back to garage. They don't charge but it is such a pain.

Has anybody else this issue? Is this normal or am I being conned????

Not sure about the leak as I am new to Audi other than prop shaft and cam seals, I have noth of those leaking but I don't lose oil anywhere near that, I wouldn't even know about it if it weren't for a faint burning smell...

what do you mean by special oil, you can put any full synthetic (well not any) in there and even blends are allowed but not recommended.

Audi dealers thend to use Castrol Syntec 5w40 around here.

The Audi dealer has a barrel of oil that they use. I asked if I could buy some standard oil but they said it was not possible (strange but true).

Looks like I should get some Synthetic oil - the manual talks about VW503 ans VW504 oil - and goto a different dealer.

Still seems excessive oil use though. Car has been booked in several times and they say nothing is wrong - warranty runs out shortly so just wanted to see if this is normal.

I burn through about 1 qt every 1000 to 1200 miles... about the same as 1 ltr for every 2 to 3k kms. I talked to numerous Audi techs and they all say it is normal. My car currently has 83k miles on the clock and is 8 years old and going strong.

As for the type of oil to use, any synthetic oil is fine. You don' have to go back to the dealer everytime. Just use correct weight per the manual.

My 2.8 with over 135K miles needs a quart 4-5000 miles. Turbo motors are known to use more oil.
