Turbos!
I would check to see if it has upgraded turbo's in case you don't know, factory has two k03 units....if they haven't been replaced, and hopefully, upgraded, then be prepared to drop a few grand on new turbo's. Also, be sure to check and see how long ago the timing belt was replaced.
I bought mine a few months ago (2000 a6) and am now in the process of doing a full stage 3 overhaul with motor and trans rebuild.
Good Luck!

Read the top two posts in this section of the forum - lots of information there.
Most important thing is how meticulous were the previous owners on maintenance - my 2001 2.7t has 217K miles, but was dealer maintained it's whole life (by a really good dealer) by the PO and still has the original turbos, etc. in perfect condition. If you can't get the maintenance history, take it to an independant audi mechanic to look through it before you buy - will be money well spent.

eejimm gives excellent advice. I did not see the mileage - but timing belts need changing every 80k miles. There is also a lot of other basic maintenance I would suggest depending: change differential and transfer case fluid, change brake fluid (mfr recommended every 2 years), change all your filters. Drive it 50-100 miles to make sure no CEL pops. I'm at 206k with oem turbo and suspension, but I did replace the clutch, flywheel, and recently the cats. I overmaintain my car, but it is my road car and I frequently take it for 1500-2000 mile weekend trips. PS - It now needs a $700 SAIU pump, which I will replace this fall.
