Default Buying used 2002 A6

I am looking to purchase a 2002 A6 3.0 with 120,000 miles tiptronic transmission. Theres no apparent issues with the car at all.

Are there any things I should be on the outlook for on a 2002 model year? I have done a fair amount of research, found mostly good reviews, a few issues, but nothing to scare me.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Read the sticky at the top of the list. Make sure to keep a couple of grand in the bank for future repairs.

Good luck,

Bob

I say this to everyone who asks your question: try and obtain the service records from the previous owner or dealer and find someone who knows Audis to inspect it. A C-note for inspection may save you $000s in bad news later. If the car was well maintained, it should be good for quite a while. But regardless, you are dealing with a 120k vehicle which means parts wear out and need replacement. Some of those parts are expensive! If it helps, I have 178k on mine and it has been relatively reliable over the 5 years and 141k miles I have driven it: alternator, clutch and flywheel, and one pair of control arms.

Thanks for the information. So far the car has gotten a thumbs up on service and my mechanic inspection. I have a Volvo S80 that I am trading in, drove for 110,000 miles, kept it maintained and hear you on typical replacement/worn out parts.

Hopefully my due diligence will pay off on a used car.
