caliper rubbing
 

Well im very new to this so bare with me. I have a 2002 a6 2.7t got this about 16 months ago from a dealer fell in love with it. Now this is the issue my caliper is grinding on the inside of my front rims to a point i cant drive it. I have replace the brake twice thinking that was the issue but the first brakes were good till about 4-5 months and thats when it started so i took the brakes back and got new ones and those lasted about6 months. I called the dealer and gave them my vin# and told me that the oem were 17x7.5 and the ones on now are 16". Now couldthis bethe issue need some help car sitting in driveway for about a month now. thx

well if its grinding the rim your offset is bad and you need new wheels. I've never seen a 2.7 w/ stock 16s. Mine has the OEM 17x7.5s like your dealer said, reason is the 2.7T brakes are rather large and need a good offset to clear them. My suggestion would be to find a set of stock wheels. I'll actually have a set in a couple weeks, real cheap. I ordered some 19's but had them sent to my addy in FL where im moving in 2 weeks. So if you wanna wait a little longer to get it back on the road, I can get you the wheels.

Now if its grinding the rotor (which I dont think it is), then your caliper has latched onto therotor and both caliper/rotors/pads, have to be replaced which is major dough.

My 2.7T has stock 16" wheels. My car also has the large front calipers. You do not need to buy new rims. If you want to to continue using those wheels/rims, determine how bad they are rubbing and you could add spacers to push the wheel/rim out further to clear the caliper. Its certainly cheaper then buying new rims and tires.

wow r u serious. when did the 2.7s have 16's?

The 2000 model year had incredibly ugly 16" wheels. I only use them in the winter months
