Default Camshaft Position Sensor 95 A6

Will the Camshaft Position Sensor cause the car to not have spark and not start?

1995 Audi A6 Quattro will not start and has no spark. I jumped the on board diagnostics connectors in the fuse panel under the hood and watch the number of blinks from the MIL light until I got my 4 digit fault code which was 2113 and then it just kept repeating that fault code. 2113 is camshaft position sensor, but I same something that said that sensor woundnt cause the car to not have spark or start?

I should also add, that this has happen twice now where the car wouldnt start, the first time I drove from work to home for lunch, when I went to start it, nothing. after a few hours of trying to figure out what was going on, the car finally started. Then 4 days later, went on a 300 mile trip, I shut the car off and have not been able to get it to start since.

In that year car the cam position sensor is needed to start the car. The engine computer will not turn on the fuel pump or start injecting fuel until it see a signal from both the cam position sensor and the engine speed sensor. Once the car is running the cam position sensor is not needed until you go to restart next time. So, if it failed during your 300 mile trip and you did not shut off the car it would keep running. By the way, my daughter's car of the same vintage had exactly this same problem. It started erratically a couple of times and then one day at school it would not start. The blink code was 2113. I bought another one (used from an online recycler). It took about 5 minutes to change and the car started right up.

I will order a new cam position sensor today! The car isnt getting spark either, I forgot to mention that as well.

Today I also realized how to read the codes the right way as it just kept repeating the 2113 fault code, after doing it correctly it also shows 2114 fault code, which i believe also has something to do with the Cam sensor being bad?

2113 - Cam Position Sensor (Hall Sensor)
2114 - Hall sensor not on reference point

This is where I am looking my codes up at:Diagnostic Fault Codes

ManyAudis thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it, my car has been out of commission for a few months and I really want to get it up and going again.

Default UPDATE: It Runs Again!

I ordered a cheap camshaft Position sensor for $22 shipped from ebay, I put the part on my 95 audi and now my car is back to life!! I wish I would have did that a few months ago when it first broke down, but it didnt make sense to me that sensor would cause the car not too run. Thanks for the help and encouragement, it feels good to be driving that car again. I think it has also improved the power a little bit and im hoping it will also help with better gas mileage.

Now I just have to figure out how to clear those codes in the cars computer and it will be good to go.
