Can I downgrade from 312mm Rotors to 288 Caliper Bracket is much cheaper
Can I downgrade from 312mm rotors to 288m?? I have a 2001 Audi A6 Quattro 2.8.
My caliper bracket broke and finding a new one has been a nightmare. Whacking Osama Bin Laden was not this difficult. Yes, I know I can pay $337 at the dealership and or 165 online. But not doing that. Its not about the cost.... I do not like being forced into anything, and since the guy at Audi was a D... I would feel like they won. (Personality flaw that I have).
Anyways, can I either downgrade to 288mm rotors or anyone else have any ideas?? I heard of people modifying the bracket.
I have brand new 312mm rotors that I could take back so that cost cancels itself out. Do I need to get new calipers too???
Thank you for your help

While it isn't a new vehicle by any stretch.. I wouldn't give up and get smaller calipers for smaller rotors. While it is expensive to find the part you will most likely just have an easier time replacing one part rather than four.. Not telling you what to do but I would recommend the bigger brakes anyways

^ Exactly what he said.
These are heavy cars. Downgrading to a smaller rotor and pads to match the smaller rotor will cause you to lose stopping power as there is less friction.
I'm sure there are ways to do this after you basically swap everything out, but I wouldn't recommend it.
