Arrow Can a used remote key be programmed?

Hello everyone, I just bought a 1999 a6 and only have one key to the car. The previous owner gave me another audi remote key that doesnt belong to the car. I was wondering if there is any way I can program this to work with my vehicle atleast to unlock the doors incase of a lockout. I was able to do this through a somewhat silly process on my old lexus. So is this possible or will I have to shell out at the dealer for a spare?

No they can't. and DO NOT BUY ON ON-LINE I tried that as well. The one I got off the internet was a cheap nock off Audi would not cut it. I had VW cut it and they screwed up twice (they are hard to cut) only to be told that the key would not accept programming. You have to suck it up $317.00. But first lean on the previous owner if you bought it privately - he does so have it. I swear they keep them for souvenirs. Every Audi I looked at had 1 key and sometimes only the Valet key so I walked away from two cars because of that. The Key cost about 160.00 to program is 150.00 but they will program an additional 4 keys later on without charging.
