Car Locked Down ???!!

Bought a 2006 Audi A6 from an auction. Has been sitting since 3/16/2018 and the battery has been dead since then. I Put a new battery in. The car came with original audi key but when i put ket in dash an turn it.... nothing. Push to start button makes key not identified pop up on dash but when inpress the button on door handle key fob light blinks but car doesn’t unlock...
Did the car forget the key due to extensive dead battery?
(Key reprogramming needed??)
The steering wheel wont unlock, can get car into neutral using release pin under ashtray. Nothing works but hazards, highbeams (Pulling the lever), Interior switches light up with headlight switch but no dome lights, door Audi logo, and radio. Radio cuts off when i turn key. Had to completely remove ebrakes from rear wheels to tow. Ive read many people say they change their colum an i find it super hard to belive that the immobilizer just went out without car being driven. Ive also seen videos and write ups about using VAG.com to “Wake car up”. Ive tried the hold unlock put into dash hold in on position while still holding unlock then remove then release button but nothing happened. Any advice would be helpful.

Hi
this morning I have had a similar problem. Got an A6 Avant estate on a 55 plate. Recently passed MOT and EMU warning light on emissions successfully sorted earlier this year. Am usually really pleased it’s such a reliable car.
Car was fine yesterday and started/drives well.
But went to start this morning and nothing. No effort to turn engine over, nothing but the radio. Unable to release hand brake nor move out of “Park” on gearbox. Battery is fine. Spare key tried and nothing. Breakdown are mystified. Car being taken to garage for diagnostics tomorrow.
If anyone has any ideas I’d be keen to hear them!
